| Allison Guarente was just two years old when she was first diagnosed with an optic glioma,( a tumor on her optic nerve) leaving her visually impaired. She had chemotherapy and surgery to remove the tumor leaving her blind in one eye. A second tumor then developed behind her other eye putting her vision at about 20/200. She received ground-breaking experimental therapy from The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute to battle the tumor and to date it has worked. The tumor is under control and she has near perfect vision at 20/25 (give or take a little) “Allie’s 5 O’Clock Fund” is a fund-raising group started by Allison’s parents Bob and Marge Guarente, with their family and friends, dedicated to fighting childhood cancer, and research, at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, via the Jimmy Fund. “Allie’s 5 O’Clock Fund” is a non-profit group that donates 100% of every dollar raised to The Jimmy Fund. |
